Gatsby was a man who spent his whole adult life trying to impress others. He was a compulsive liar who could make others fall in love with his fame and glory...all except the Daisy and Tom Buchanan. Although Daisy was already married, Gatsby continued to wow her with his riches. He wanted to prove to Daisy that he wasn't that same poor boy she met long ago. Helen Fisher explains that love is like a “rush of cocaine.” She further explains that several “people live for live, they kill for love, they die for love.” Gatsby was willing to do whatever it took to win over Daisy’s heart like he did once before. He ended up taking the blame for a crime Daisy committed and he ended up dying because of it.
Like Gatsby, I am a hopeless romantic who believes that you should do whatever you can to win your true love, but there should be certain limits set. For example, Daisy was married to Tom Buchanan and had a child with him the whole time Gatsby was trying to win her heart again. His hopes for their relationship was not practical. In fact, towards the end of the book, Gatsby started to go crazy when his plans to run away with Daisy were not working out. Helen Fisher described this type of behavior as a “craving of the mind”
